The more I read and study the book of Daniel the more I pray to be such a powerful yet humble person. I believe that Daniel and the three Hebrew boys were able to move in the manner in which they did because they understood who God is and what he is capable of doing. What I admire about them is the effect their lifestyles had on the kingdom in which they live and the Kingdom of God. Although they might have witnessed to people or spoke about accepting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, many came to know God because of their lifestyles. Sometimes, we are the ONLY Bible people read. What are your scriptures saying? In Chapter 2 the king Nebuchadnezzar had to acknowledge God after all his “wise men” were not able to interpret his dream.
Daniel 2: 47 – 48 The king answered Daniel, and said, “Truly your God is the God of gods, the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since you could reveal this secret.” 48 Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many great gifts; and he made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief administrator over all the wise men of Babylon.
God was acknowledged and Daniel was blessed and elevated. In chapter 3 we see that Sharach Meshach and Abed-nego were thrown into the fiery furnace because of men. They were reported to the king because of their stance for God and in not bowing to any man-made idol. (Read Daniel 3) However, when the king looked into the flames he saw four persons and without asking knew it was God himself and again had to acknowledge God.
Daniel 3: 28 – 30 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel[a] and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!29 Therefore I make a decree that any people, nation, or language which speaks anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made an ash heap; because there is no other God who can deliver like this.” 30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon.
Are you seeing a pattern? In Chapter seven Daniel was cast into the lion’s den because of men. Men who he employed and gave a better life. They then turn on him because his anointing made him stand out. Being blinded and not knowing it was the anointing, they got him thrown into the den. However they did not know that they were being used by the enemy only to prove again that there is a God.
Daniel 6: 20 – 24 And when he came to the den, he cried out with a lamenting voice to Daniel. The king spoke, saying to Daniel, “Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to deliver you from the lions?” 21 Then Daniel said to the king, “O king, live forever! 22 My God sent His angel and shut the lions’ mouths, so that they have not hurt me, because I was found innocent before Him; and also, O king, I have done no wrong before you.” 23 Now the king was exceedingly glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in his God. 24 And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions—them, their children, and their wives; and the lions overpowered them, and broke all their bones in pieces before they ever came to the bottom of the den.
Do you see it? When we make a stance for God, it doesn’t matter who says what, what God says is the final say. It doesn’t matter who pushes us in the flames or in the lion’s den, God will walk with us. Often times we are persecuted by family members, friends, co-workers and we slowly but surely begin to plan how to deal with them; Don’t you know that God is more than able to protect you? Daniel and they did not focus on the accusers but on the creature. They had faith in God. Chapter 7:23 tells us why Daniel was protected. (See bold) Hebrews 11:6 says But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. I often tried to dismiss the verse that says blessed are those who are persecuted for God (Matthew 5:10) but in reading Daniel, God is making it clear why it is no “biggie”. The reward is far greater than anything done or said to me.
Maybe you are being persecuted or tormented and it is frustrating you. You feel like giving up. I am here to tell you DO NOT GIVE UP. Stand firm for the Lord is on your side. These guys prayed in the midst of the storm and so should we. Eventually people will have to bow and confess our God. Stand still and know that he is God, there is no need to fight for the battle is the Lords and oh he is a warrior. Do not sway your believe. Stand for him and he will stand for you.
