2014 has been marked as a year of excellence for many. Though some understands, while others don’t, they have declared 2014 as a year of greatness, better days and increase in every aspect of their lives. So what if this is true? What if this year brought in some fruits with it? How are you going to possess the fruit? Would expect that as the earth turns on its axis, there would be a some form of magical shake that would drop fruits into your hands or the fruits would be shot straight to you? That is impossible. Possession of the fruit lies with you and there is biblical proof for the mentioned principle.
In the book of Deuteronomy, Moses was talking to his people about crossing over into new territories. God made a promise and was about to fulfill it. He was going to get them to the land he promised but work was still needed in order for them to reap the benefits of the land. It’s like me taking you to your favourite mall and you standing outside looking at the doors of each store down the isles without moving. Would you get that fancy dress and those killer shoes? No. Movements would be mandatory to retrieve the items (the blessings) and it is made quite clear in Deuteronomy 19 that it all depends on you and I.
Deuteronomy 19: 2 – 3 – You shall separate three cities for yourself in the midst of your land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess. 3 You shall prepare roads for yourself, and divide into three parts the territory of your land which the Lord your God is giving you to inherit
Did you see it. “For yourself”. I sure did. Many times we desire things but expect some supernatural move of getting it. Though you are walking into new territories, understand that the product in which you desire lies in your hands and feet. You can deem 2014 as the best year in your life, if you remain stagnant and put no work towards what can be your reality, it would be but just a figment of your imagination.
I too look forward to so much in this year and beyond but I am reminded that God will do what I can’t do and I need to do what I can. While I work with his direction, I know his grace would be sufficient to keep me when times get tough and I feel like giving up. Do not think of new territories, if you wish not to put as much work into creating the life you’ve always longed for.
