Daily Digest: When The Going Gets Tough

Being the eight day of the year, the words of new year resolutions are still racing through, the streets of man’s tissued country. The adrenaline is pumping and the focus is on like a green traffic light. So we keep going, going, going. I wonder if anyone has taken time off to think about the challenges they would have to encounter in pursuing these dreams and to fully receive the greatness this year have to bring?

As I read the book of Deuteronomy and rolled over into Joshua, I could not help but see the parallelism in the atmosphere. They were about to cross over to possess a land of milk and honey but that land was possessed by others already. It was rightfully theirs because God has promised it to them. In order for them to receive it, in crossing, they would have had to enter into battle, subduing the enemy to then possess the land.

WAR! CHALLENGES! One in the same for me. I too believe this year has brought a cloak of greatness for us to be engulfed in and prosper (in whatever manner). However, what will you do when the going gets tough? God promised his people not to be afraid because he was with them and would NEVER leave them or forsake them. If they did not hold unto that promise, believing it with all their hearts, then with much enthusiasm for new territories, they still would have failed. The hype and excitement for new things would have been a waste.

Understand that though 2014 is a great year, so too will there be great challenges. It is not me being pessimistic but father realistic. Challenges are always there and they help develop us into great men and women. Would you give up or would you press on?

Joshua 1:9 NKJV

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Though the seas would bring bigger waves than we anticipated and the winds blow harder than a typical storm, we are reminded not to be fearful but to hold on to Gods promise and be strong. I am not looking forward for challenges, I don’t know of anyone who does that…lol. However, if they come, I am to remind myself of the promise. Of God’s covenant with me. The very same goes for you. Do not give up but hold on in your season because the great fruits of this year will be birthed.
