Daily Digest: The Right Ingredients For Prayer

James mentions the most common problems in prayer: not asking, asking for the wrong things, asking for the wrong reasons. Do you talk to God at all? When you do, what do you talk about? Do you ask only to satisfy your desires? Do you seek God’s approval for what you already plan to do? Your prayers will become powerful when you allow God to change your desires so that they perfectly correspond to his will for you.

You are jealous and covet [what others have] and your desires go unfulfilled; [so] you become murderers. [To hate is to murder as far as your hearts are concerned.] You burn with envy and anger and are not able to obtain [the gratification, the contentment, and the happiness that you seek], so you fight and war. You do not have, because you do not ask. [I John 3:15.] [Or] you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive, because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasures.
James 4:2-3 AMP

Prayer Request

The word encourages us to pray for one another. One such verse is found in the book of James.

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:16 KJV

Confessing of faults though, has been one of the hardest things to do in recent times. Confidentiality vacated and trusting someone with our secrets became hard. This should never be the case and so I encourage us all today to be our brothers keeper. If someone should share a fault with you, it’s imperative that you bear them up in prayer, rather than share the story with the world. How would you feel if this was done to you?

Also, a note to the elders. Always be mindful that you too were young. Often times young people feel chastised by an elder because of the things they may say. Your experiences should equip you to be a strong helper and support for a needy youth. I admit that tough love is needed sometimes but through the wisdom of God, you can’t go wrong with your approach. THROUGH THE WISDOM OF GOD. NOT SELF. It is wrong to map onto others where you may have fell while it is wise to warn a person of potential outcomes. Accountability /counselling is a good thing but requires much wisdom and prayer.

With this, we are taking the opportunity to invite you to send us your prayer request. We will be happy to trust God with and for you in any situation. Please note that confidenliaty will be highly maintained. The depth of your request lies in your hands. You can be in detail or not. Come what may, we will be happy to pray for you.

Remember there is no distance in prayer and when we ask God with faith believing, it shall be done, according to the will of God. So send us your prayer request and we will lift you up before the throne of grace.

Daily Digest: Your Prayer

Rom.15.30.kjv – Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

Too often we view prayer as a time for comfort, reflection, or making our requests known to God. But here Paul urges believers to join in his struggle by means of prayer. Prayer is also a weapon in all believers’ armor as we intercede for others who join in the fight against Satan. Do your prayers reflect that urgency?

Father I thank you for the opportunity I have to pray and exalt your name. Grant me a greater desire and love for you, for the Holy Spirit, that Iwill gladly seek your face diligently. Not just for things I need but for my brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you that greater zeal. This I ask and thank you for answering this prayer in advance , in Jesus’s name. Amen

Daily Digest: A Parents Prayer

After having an affair with Bathsheba and orchestrating the death of her husband, David thought he had “gotten away with murder.” That is until the prophet Nathan confronted him on his sin and told him his child with Bathsheba would die as a result of his actions. David was broken at the thought, so he pleaded with God for the life of his son day and night.

First, notice “who” David went to. It wasn’t to a counselor for insight, a teacher for wisdom, a doctor for medicine, or even a priest for prayer. He first went to God, our great counselor, physician, and Creator of the universe. Of course God does speak and work through others, but I believe if we always seek help from others instead of God we forfeit the privilege of being able to come boldly before His throne in our time of need.

Next, notice “how” he did it. David fasted and prayed while lying on the ground. This is far from a “please bless this food” kind of prayer. He forwent eating and stayed on his face before God pleading for the life of his child. After my mother came to faith, she committed to fast for me once a week until I came to know the Lord. I was far from God and many thought she was crazy. But our God is in the business of miracles, and He honored her fasts and answered her prayers.

Finally, notice “when” David prayed. He prayed all day and night for seven days, until his child finally passed.

Have you lost hope? Have you given up on God moving in the life of your child? Don’t be discouraged. It took six years of fasting and praying before God answered the cries of my mother, and I finally gave my life to Christ. God’s timing is not our timing, so don’t lose hope when the answer doesn’t come as quickly as you’d like.

Parents, commit today to pray to God for our kids like David prayed for his son, fervently and without ceasing.

DIG: What are three things that distinguished David’s prayer for his son?
DISCOVER: What can you take from David’s example and apply to your own prayers for your kids?
DISPLAY: Would you be willing to pray for them like David did, or even fast for your children?

Reminded To Remind You

What a day I had. It started off slow and almost in the dumps. Unfortunately I can’t identify what was the cause for me feeling down but the feeling was quite intense. To make matters worst, today was not a people day. Not that I wanted it to be so but it automatically came with the “down package”, sadly making me feel worst. Worship service (church) was good and so was the sermon but to my surprise it did not do much. The feeling of joy was still being battled to stay away from me and this struggled annoyed me. On my return home, I laid still on my bed and tried not to nurse the feeling by listening to a sermon on deliverance. It is in this, I was reminded that the enemy came to kill, steal and destroy. You may think but that’s basic. It doesn’t need a reminder but most times we forget the basics when faced with tests.

I recently started seeking God for more of him. My hearts desire is to really understand who God is, since I believe this knowledge would bring a greater form of worship from within but in doing so I was asking for trouble. The enemy was not going to give me a rest and today the attack intensified. After leading worship yesterday at a praise-a-thon and receiving a word to move forward, he decided to unleash on me today. He began to feed my mind with all sorts of negative thoughts and caused me to see things which probably was not there. He tried to break my spirit, which would either cause me to remain stagnant or fall backwards but then came the word of power, “GREATER IS HE THAT LIVES IN ME THAN HE THAT LIVES IN THE WORLD “.

Now this word would mean nothing if I didn’t believe it. I allowed that word to saturate my mind as I prayed and pleaded the blood of Jesus. Just as the feeling, my prayer had to be intense because the feeling was not just going to leave and so, after much perseverance it was gone. People I now remind you that enemy is real. Many believe its a hoax and its a matter of negative and positive forces but these same people when placed in a tight position, commits suicide or bring harm to their bodies. Why would not the positive forces stop them? Because it cannot but Jesus can heal the broken hearted. He can fix all situations; he is all powerful and holds each persons life in his hands. The same resurrection power that raised Christ from the dead would reside in you, once you accept him as Lord and savior of your life. No dark entity would be able to consume you, if you use the authority given to us by God in Luke 10:19.

I know it may not be easy at times. The different level of testing brings different levels of pain but God. Be reminded that he is right there fighting for you and will not allow you to go through more than you can bear. There is always something I remind myself of and that is, if I am going through something “difficult”, the fact that Jesus said we will not get more than we can bear, means that I am a strong person. If he did not think it possible for me to handle, he would not have allowed it to past my way. Same goes for you. So be encouraged and reminded that you are an over-comer because you serve the one true and living God, Jesus Christ. In him there is life and peace.

I speak peace into your life today in the name of Jesus. May all the things that are out of order, in your mind, body and soul come into order in Jesus name. Be set free in Jesus name. Amen.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda – True Story

Do you know about three minutes ago, myself along with another young man, could have been our country’s latest road fatalities? The title which was written in our local language called dialect (Trinidad and Tobago), describes it all. I could have been, I should have been, I would have been BUT GOD.

After losing one of my students a couple of years ago due to the breaking of a red traffic light, by an irresponsible driver, it has become a part of me to look left and right before crossing even after the light would have turned red. For me, a red light is more than, “you can cross now” but rather it means proceed with caution, due to the formerly mentioned issue, along with my very own experience before. However, there was something more frightening about this afternoon. A short while after the light turned red, the three pedestrians, inclusive of myself, began crossing and we did so with ease because all the cars stopped, or so we thought. As I made my way to the center lane, I heard this loud rumble quickly approaching my right ear. It was the sound of a Wingroad engine coming with full speed. Thank God my legs stopped before my heart did and so did the young man’s. When the driver realized what was going on, he had to mash a sudden harsh brakes, which could have had repercussions also. A sliding car, a flipping car, losing control of the vehicle, all of this was possible and could have happened in the twinkling of an eye. The other pedestrian, who happens to be an elderly lady said “Oh my God! This woulda be a terrible accident here yuh know”. The only thing that came from me was Thank you Jesus and a smile. It’s like my brain was not functioning to think of anything else. That was the most blank feeling ever.

Now that I am safely home and thinking, I ask myself the questions, “What if you did die? Where would you have spent eternity”? With all my heart I believe heaven and I thank God for that. That I know, that I know , where my eternity lies. How about you? Do you know where your eternity lies? Life is such a mystery, you can actually be here today and gone today. Ah! I know you were thinking tomorrow but NO, it can all happen in a day. ONE DAY is all it takes to say HI and GOOD-BYE. I thank God for keeping me and I pray that I live daily to do his will so that if and when that time comes, I would be ready to meet my King.  I pray you, please be ready. Now is the acceptable time. RIGHT NOW. You don’t know what later today or tomorrow brings. Hebrews 3:15 says – As has just been said: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.”

If you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, I am presenting this opportunity to you, to do so. Simply pray the prayer below and believe that you received him and it is done. After this, you can find a local church that is Jesus based and go fellowship with Gods people.

Father, I confess that I am a sinner and I have made mistakes in my life but you said if I confess my sins, you will forgive me from all unrighteousness. So I confess my sins before you and ask for your forgiveness. Wash me and make me clean today. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour and will follow him from this day forward in Jesus name. Amen.

Welcome into the family of God. God bless you richly my brother/sister.

I could not have given this post a title  other than the one used because I want people from near and far to have  a read and share this moment with me. This morning my Daily Digest was about answers in our lives going beyond prayer. See here: Daily Digest: Beyond Prayer. In it, I explained that I was instructed by God to make some things right, which I began working on immediately. Little did I know, that he was going to do what he did today. As I type, my heart is still racing and the tears have already fallen in thanksgiving.

The company I work for at present, have been going through some financial issues as of lately, due to clients tardiness concerning our outstanding funds. Due to this we were operating through the bank and did overrun our accounts to a point where the bank manager said NO MORE. I was not at work yesterday and so upon reaching today and conversing with my boss, I heard and saw how forlorn he was about us not having moneys to cover salaries for this fortnight. I did not say much because silence is better in times like these. However, I heard in my heart to contact the bank manager. The same person who said a vehement NO MORE to us and so I did. I am sure you can tell where this story ended. She FACILITATED us and our employees would be able to get their salary. I am so excited to inform my boss, since he had no idea I was going to do this.

This morning was unlike any other because I did something I haven’t done in a while and that was spend quality time with God not asking for anything more than his righteousness and listening when he spoke. After I got that heart-warming email from the bank manager, again I heard in my heart, “The reward of spending time with me”  followed by the verse Matthew 6:33 – But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

The rewards won’t always be materialistically but all the same, we would be rewarded when we seek Gods righteousness. I didn’t just pray but “made things right” as God asked me to and “Wala” , he opened a door that everyone, including myself knew to be closed. Be encouraged and do the same. I am sure you will have so many praise reports to share at the end of it all. This is simply amazing. Bless the Lord.
