Daily Digest: The Life

An eye for an eye; a tooth for a tooth. This is the theory many of us live by. We keep thoughts of wicked done to us and plan our revenge with intent of more severe damage than we may have gone through.

We often forget that vengeance belongs to God. When evil is repaid,  we become just as the persons who would have done it. Sometimes maybe worst. This often happens because we think of ourselves more highly than others. We are to (even in turmoil), love our neighbours as we love ourselves. Not love yourself and “care” a little or not at all about others.

God is looking and waiting to create a people of a renewed mind. A mind and heart that is just like him. Overlooking faults and seeing needs. If God is suppose to treat us the way we treat people, our lives would be miserable.

Therefore, let us learn to forgive and share the heart of Christ with all men (human beings), for this is one of the wills of God concerning us.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. – Romans 12:21 NKJV

Prayer: Father I thank you for ministering to my heart by your Holy Spirit. Forgive me for harbouring hurt and unkind acts done to me. I forgive all persons associated with these thoughts and remove resentment from my life. Thank you for washing me in your blood, in Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Pillow Talk: Get a Life

Get a Life!

A shy person shrinks back from many things that she should confront. There are many things she would like to say or do, but she’s paralyzed by fear. I believe we must learn to step out into things and find out what God has for us in life. A more timid approach may protect individuals from making mistakes, but the result is that they spend their lives wondering “what could have been.” Bold people, on the other hand, make more mistakes, but they recover and eventually find what is right and fulfilling for them.

Making mistakes is not the end of the world. We can recover from most mistakes. But one of the few mistakes we cannot recover from is the mistake of never being willing to make one in the first place! God works through our faith, not our fear. Don’t sit on the sidelines of life wishing you were doing the things you see other people doing. Take action and make the most of life!

Pray: Lord, I put my trust in You and look forward to moving into new areas of life. I will not sit on the sidelines any longer. Amen.

Pillow Talk: When You Feel Afraid

Just because ordinary people take steps to accomplish extraordinary things does not mean that they do not feel fear. I believe the Old Testament hero Esther felt fear when she was asked to leave her familiar, comfortable life and enter the king’s harem so she could be used by God to save her nation. I believe Joshua felt fear when, after Moses died, he was given the job of taking the Israelites into the Promised Land. I know I had fear when God called me to quit my job and prepare for ministry. I still remember my knees shaking and my legs feeling so weak that I thought I would fall down. I remember the fear I felt then, but it frightens me more now to think of how my life would have turned out had I not faced the fear and pressed forward to do God’s will.

Fear does not mean you are a coward. It only means that you need to be willing to feel the fear and do what you need to do anyway.

Pray: Lord, thank You for the many examples in Your Word of individuals who stepped forward in faith despite their fears. Help me to do the same. Amen.

Pillow Talk: True Love Removes Fear

So long as love is imperfect, there is room for fear. The thing that is unknown, yet known to exist, will always be more or less formidable. When it is known as immeasurably greater than we and as having claims and making demands on us and the more vaguely these are apprehended, the more room there is for anxiety. And when the conscience is not clear, this anxiety may well mount to terror. Where it is possible that fear should exist, it is well it should exist cause continual uneasiness and be cast out by nothing less than love.

Daily Digest: Unbelief

Hebrew 3:19 – So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.

If you are acquainted with the story of Moses and the children of Israel, you will remember that the older generation aka the complainers, was not allowed to enter the promise land because of their unbelief. Although they lived off of signs and wonders done by God himself, though they had such a first hand experience with him, they still had a heart that believed not and thus was not allowed to enter the land of milk and honey as God described it. Though I use a biblical example, I would like to elaborate on unbelief.

Unbelief according to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, is a lack of faith and I would add is a relative of doubt. When you doubt something, it is hard for it to materialize. How many times things in our lives are held back because of doubt. I know because doubt was my foundation in life. When looking at myself in the mirror, I would see an inferior person who was not capable of doing anything great and so the many ideas would be there but with no chances of bearing fruit. My break through came when I surrendered my life to Christ and started seeing myself through Gods eyes. Now I know I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength  – Philippians 4:13, I am now filled with confidence to do whatever I set my mind to do. It’s a process though because the doubt tries to creep in from time to time but with Gods help, I am always blessed to overcome.

I encourage you today as I do myself, to cease the doubting. The minute you start believing in yourself, is the minute things will change in your life. It is also imperative that you surround yourself with people who are positive and can help stare you in the right direction. Do not be like the people who followed Moses and complained instead of believing that the land of milk and honey was theirs. You can get the best out of life if only you believe.

Pillow Talk : Fear When Not Needed

Tonight as I made my way back home from a friend’s home, I began to laugh at the thoughts in my mind. While walking out of her street, I began panicking because it was just me walking on a lively street. Maybe not as lively as the “avenue” in Port of Spain but it was not that dead. There were other people on the street. Yet fear was gripping me. Many may say, it’s because of the crime rate in my country, by all means, I have the right to feel that way but diving back in time to worst circumstances than tonight’s,  made me laugh at how cunning the enemy is. Yes, the enemy.

Going down memory lane took me to a time three girlfriends and I were going to a nightclub in Port of Spain. When we got the one we intended to go to, things did not work out as anticipated and so we decided to walk to the other club in heels (stilettos and boots). This club was not close to the other and if we could have gotten transportation to get there, we would have. However, with the lime so much on our minds, safety did not get a space to be a thought. We walked along some dismal streets in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Four beautiful young ladies, all dressed in SEXY attire to get to this other night club. Was fear gripping my heart then? No. I was too excited to be the life of the party. Yes I had company but what defense could they have been? Think about it. If a car with three (not even four) men were suppose to pull alongside us and make demands, what would have been our situation. With heels on, running would not have been an option but fear did not exist. God was the furthest thing from my mind but yet he protected us. I can remember a man passing and saying, “Young ladies, where you all going? Take care of allyuh self eh”. Get it now? The places we had to past was grounds for many assaults to happen to anyone of us but that was far from our thoughts.

However, tonight I was not in a place anyway close to that and here I was, being fearful. Even more so knowing God and he promising to give his angels charge over me, I was still walking with a racing heart. The memory gave me a sense of peace and I just had to laugh at the tricks of the enemy. Times when fear should have read at a ten, it was not even lined up for meter reading and the time when I should have no fear but rather just observe my surroundings (as always), I was timid.

Have you ever found yourself in that position? Maybe not in the same as above but probably of other things. Life issues maybe. The enemy play with our minds so much and causes us to fear when we have the word of God to live by. Romans 8:15 says, (Paraphrasing), God did not give us the spirit of bondage to fear but the spirit of adoption where we can call him “Abba Father”. Fear is a bondage. It incarcerate us. Where God is, there should be no fear. So the next time fear wants to raise its head, speak to that mountain and tell it to be moved in Jesus name. Call on daddy – Abba Father and ask him for the peace that he promised. The peace that passes all understanding. Have no fear, Jesus is always there. (Had to rhyme a bit….lol)

ARISE – Are you dealing with fear and don’t know how to start overcoming? I know. I have been there but God is able. Send us a prayer request at arisewoman@gmail.com. We will be happy to pray for you. God bless.

I Got This

Arise I say. Arise. Isn’t this something you hear me say everyday on my Facebook page? Or when I write a blog? You may laugh though when I tell you, I am still learning to ARISE. Though it may seem contradictory to what I “preach”, I felt the urge to share this with you.

In all the writing and posting of inspirational quotes and videos, it still didn’t dawn on me that I too, second guess myself and needs to ARISE in my confidence. You may think, she has it all covered or at least what she writes about is covered. Sad to say, so to, did I. I guess the sharing and the desire to be better consumed my vision of seeing where I am. On Saturday 27th April, 2013, I had a Mathematics examination and of course with Maths being my “Favourite Subject”, I went through the paper with ease (Right!!). Everything went pretty smooth, except for this one question that seemed to be giving not just me but the entire class a hard time. Our teacher, being the most caring lecturer I’ve met in a long while, gave us a couple hints and that was enough to stare us in the right direction. I had the light bulb effect and was going at the question with the “I got this” mindset, or so I thought. I did it; got a reversible workable answer but some where deep inside me said no; its wrong. So I did the next best thing. Erase it and try another method. To wrap it up, all in one word, FAILURE. Right there and then, I felt my inside wanting to come out. “You mean to say I going and fail this exam?” Yes! My thoughts were beginning to get the better of me. Apparently the lady next to me picked it up because she turned and asked, “Why are you second guessing yourself?” The answer you got before was correct. Don’t ask me why she was looking at my paper (Lol) but what she said was enough to shake me up.

Who said I could not figure out a tough mathematical question? No one but I. The seed of mistrust and lack of confidence dug deep into the soil of my brain and started shooting immediately. Sigh. I had to redo the entire question. However, when I got to my teacher, she said WELL DONE. My heart felt elated that I really did get it. However, I would have lost marks because I didn’t believe in myself. How many of us realize after the fact, that it was possible. That the job could have been done and it was because of our low-level of faith within ourselves, the opportunity was lost. The show came to an end and you never got the chance to portray your true ability. I could not be more thankful to my classmate. Since then, It’s been playing over and over in my mind. “Why do I second guess myself?” Apart from the psychological aspect of it, aren’t I a child of God? The God who told me in Philippians 4: 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me. So why? I had to readjust my trend of thoughts and speak it into being. It has now become a daily routine to work on developing the lifestyle practice of believing in myself and knowing that “I got this”.

I know you’ve been there or maybe you are. That place where you look down on yourself, when you should really be seeing yourselves the way God sees you. Hey, you are a child of the most high King and that makes you royalty. So despite the imperfections that you see daily, don’t let them ensnare you. See Post: Ensnared By Imperfections? As Joel Osteen said, the queen would also have insecurities, but when she steps into a room, she is assertive, poised and ready to deliver because she is Queen. It’s the same application method. The crown you may not have or the expensive pieces of jewelry but you are still royalty and should always believe in yourself. We should always operate with that level of authority (NB: Not conceitedness), because God said in Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. If it’s so, then with God leading my life, “I GOT THIS.”

Arise – If you are having problems believing in yourself and want us to pray for you, send your prayer request to arisewoman@gmail.com. We will agree and believe God with you, for your moment of overcoming. God bless.
